Canada Training

April 10th, 2007

As promised, we headed up to Vancouver, BC Canada to train with Mr. Johnny Ahmed 4th Dan, March 22 - 25, 2007.  Mr. Mason McCauley, III Dan, Mrs. Diana McCauley II Dan and a student Mr. Chad Eggers 7th Gup were in attendance.

We were met with nothing but rain and traffic, and were beginning to wonder if we would ever make it to the hotel.  We did finally make it safe and sound where we grabbed a bite to eat and called it a day.

On Friday, we headed over to Mr. Ahmed’s school where he graciously hosted a workout for us.  He led us through patterns, drills and sparring.

After the workout we all met for dinner and great conversation and then headed back to our hotel for a well earned nights sleep.

Saturday we met again for another workout.  Mr. Ahmed did not disappoint us as we went through lots of conditioning drills and again had the opportunity to spar.  We appreciate the opportunity to train with other black belts and learn new drills and techniques.

Saturday night Mr. Ahmed, along with his friend Whitney took us downtown Vancouver to this amazing Greek Taverna named Stepho’s Souvlaki where we met up with our new friend and fellow black belt Mr. Vadim Oskolkov, II Dan.  We even had our own official "Borat" waiter.  The food was amazing and we all had a great time.

The weekend and training both went by way too fast and we have already scheduled another trip to Vancouver to train with Mr. Ahmed and his students. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful friends within the realm of ITF Taekwon-Do.

Mr. Chad Morishita 4th Dan and his student Ms. Tona Foster, 5th Gup, from Salt Lake City, Utah visited McCauley Taekwon-Do and Fitness the weekend of March 15 - 18, 2007.

It was great to have them at our school and training with us.  We were able to help each other brush up on our competition skills in prepartion for the upcoming Nationals/World Qualifiers to be held in Pleasanton, CA, April 27 - 28, 2007.

Mr. Morishita will be competing in the World Qualifiers and Ms. Foster will be competing in her first Nationals.

We spent several hours over three days working on sparring, patterns and drills, and in the non-training hours we had the opportunity for some great food and even better conversations.

Although many of our students were unable to train with Mr. Morishita, those that did appreciated the time that these martial artists took out of their busy schedules to come to Walla Walla and train with us.  We always learn new things and incorporate those new techinques and values into our own school.

Mr. Morishita shared with us his experience of teaching a "Night Of a Thousand Kicks".  I think the name says it all.  I’m not sure how our students enjoyed the fact that Mr. McCauley shared this experience with all of us.  Mr. McCauley thought it was a "Night Of a Thousand Kicks, Per Leg".  Needless to say, there were many sore bodies after that class!

We are anxious to see Mr. Moishita and Ms. Foster at Nationals/World Qualifiers and wish them well in their respective divisions.

Black Belt Training

April 10th, 2007

On Saturday, February 3, 2007 several black belts from Canada and Puerto Rico came down to McCauley Taekwon-Do and Fitness for a workout.  Last year, Mr. Johnny Ahmed 4th Dan and Mr. Ilugar Castillo 2nd Dan came and worked out prior to Mr. Castillo competing in Germany where he took a Bronze Medal.

We were fortunate to have Mr. Ahmed once again bring Mr. Castillo, Ms. Mily   1st Dan, from Puerto Rico and from Canada, Mr. Chris Law 4th Dan and Mr. Dakota Strigley 1st Dan.

It is always a priviledge and an honor to workout with these talented martial artists and continue to build the ties of friendship.  We promised that it would be our turn to head up to Canada and train with Mr. Ahmed and his students.

Several students were on hand for the Saturday night workout, and again on Sunday before the group headed back up to Vancouver, BC. Canada.

Congratulations To Our Testing Black Belts

 Testing Candidates.JPG

Congratulations to two students from McCauley Taekwon-Do and Fitness along with two other students from Three Rivers Taekwon-Do on successfully completing the requirements for 1st Degree Black Belt.

On January 6, 2007, Ms. Caitlin Charnley-Ovens and Mr. Morgan Tucker were put through the rigors of testing in front of Master Gordon Jue, 7th Degree Black Belt in Pasco, WA.  The candidates started the testing process by completing a written test of over ninety questions.  They then moved into the practical portion of the test where they demonstrated their skills in patterns, kicking, hand techniques, step-sparring, free-sparring, self-defense and breaking.

Family, students and friends were on hand to watch the demonstration of skill from the candidates.  Ms. Charnley-Ovens took the honor of overall high test score.

Following a lunch break, everyone gathered together and participated in a seminar taught by Master Jue.  The physically demanding and informative seminar was the best way to round out an already perfect day. Master Jue is known for his great teaching skills and as well as ensuring that everyone gets a challenging workout.

It was an honor to host Master Jue and a proud moment for McCauley Taekwon-Do and their two newest black belts.
