Q: What is Taekwon-Do?
A: Taekwon-Do is a modern, hard-style Korean Martial Art. The word Taekwon-Do literally means the way of the foot and hand. This style was introduced to the world by the late General Choi Hong Hi, Grand Master and President of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF).
Taekwon-Do is known for its wide arsenal of impressive and effective kicking techniques, along with a wide array of foot, hand, elbow, and knee strikes, as well as throws and joint locks.
Q: What is the cost for Taekwon-Do classes?
A: There are several tuition plans available. Please come to Blue Mountain Taekwon-Do and Fitness and our school representative will be happy to assist you in choosing the best plan for you.
Q: Are there any hidden costs to taking classes at Blue Mountain Taekwon-Do and Fitness?
A: Each new student receives a New Student Binder that explains all costs associated with Taekwon-Do, expectations, as well as important testing information for your first belt.
Q: Do I have to buy a uniform?
A: In the beginning sweats and a tee-shirt are acceptable. You will, however, be required to purchase a uniform by your first formal test, which is in approximately three months.
Q: Do I need any experience?
A: No previous experience in the martial arts is required. All you need is the desire to learn. We do, however, welcome students of other martial arts who want to learn Taekwon-Do.
Q: How young do you start children in Taekwon-Do classes?
A: It depends on the child. If the child is focused and able to follow directions, we can start them as early as age five.
Q: What type of contact is made during sparring?
A: Since we are a hard-style martial art, we do make contact. We participate in continuous, contact sparring. The level of contact is appropriate for the age and ability of the student. The safety of our students comes first and foremost.
Q: Do I need any special safety equipment when I spar?
A: Yes. You will wear instructor approved hand pads, foot pads, cups for males, and a mouthpiece. Shin guards and head gear are optional, unless you are under the age of 16. Sparring gear is available for purchase at a reduced price through our school.
Q: What if I haven’t exercised in years and want to take one of the fitness classes. Will I be able to keep up?
A: Yes. The classes are geared for anyone, regardless of fitness level. I use the “go at your own speed” rationale and demonstrate appropriate exercises for all levels.
Q: Can I try before I buy?
A: Yes, the first class is free! Wear comfortable clothing, bare feet, bring a towel and lots of water.
