Virtually sparring can be divided into free or match sparring like boxing and pre-arranged sparringFree sparring is to promote courage and fighting spirit, to train the eyes to read the opponent’s tactics and maneuvers, and also to test his skills and abilities.

Pre-arranged sparring is purported to promote confidence by experimenting with attack and defense techniques learned from pattern and fundamental exercise through the physical application against an actual moving opponent or opponents under various situations.  In addition, it is designed to forge (build) the attacking and blocking tools (arms, legs), making sparring inseparable from pattern and fundamental exercise.

Pre-arranged sparring is classified into pre-arranged, semi-free, free, foot technique, model and pre-arranged free sparring.  Each of these categories is achieved at specific belt levels and progresses with skill.

Free sparring is essentially an open combat with controlled attacking and prohibition of attacking to certain vital spots. In free sparring there is no prearranged mode between the players, and both participants are completely free to attack and defend with all available means and methods.  In sparring, focused blows, speed, power, balance, and strong and accurate blocking, skillful dodging and attitude are taken into consideration.
